Better Image Quality Through State-of-the-Art Print Technology
The VersaStudio utilises the same advanced print technology as Roland’s VersaCAMM VS series. The new piezo inkjet head prints up to 1440 dpi using variable droplet technology with seven precise droplet sizes to optimise image quality. Roland Intelligent Pass Control™ Technology delivers exceptional quality prints with smoother gradations, richer density and deeper image saturation for photographic and vector output. Best of all, the print technology is built to last. The gold-plated head reduces static, preventing clogging, and a patent-pending wiper system decreases wear and tear on the print head and prolongs its life by reducing buildup.
Four Different Ink Choices – Icluding Metallic Silver Ink
The BN-20 offers a choice of three different ink configurations. Four-colour (CMYK) is the best choice for standard process colour inkjet printing. ECO-SOL MAX™ offers fast drying time, high density, wide colour gamut, rugged scratch resistance, low cost per square foot and broad uncoated media support. ECO-SOL MAX™ is virtually odorless, and graphics are water and UV resistant up to three years outdoors** without lamination. ** CMYK only
The five colour inkset — combining metallic silver ink with CMYK — is the premier choice for versatility and market competitiveness. This allows you to add value and sophistication to virtually any graphic on a wide range of media, including clear vinyl and films, fine art paper, canvas, and photobase paper. Metallic Silver Eco-SOL MAX ink — recognised as DPI Product of the Year — can be printed as a spot colour, or combined with CMYK to produce over 500 striking metallic and pearlescent colours. The new Metallic Texture Library adds 26 different texture fills as well.
Five-colour white ink option – combining white ink with CMYK – is designed particularly for those businesses working with clear media for packaging comps, labels, window signs, POP and other popular applications. White Eco-SOL MAX ink produces crisp text and graphics with high levels of brightness and opacity and extended scratch and chemical resistance. It can also be printed as an undercoat to increase the brightness and opacity of four-colour images.
A fourth configuration, CMYK aqueous ink, is also available for the BN-20. This high-density water-based ink creates brilliant colours and excellent print quality, for short-term indoor applications. The ink configuration must be selected at the time of install. It is not possible to change the ink configuration after a selection has been made and the printer has been inked up.
Print and Cut in One Integrated Workflow
The VersaStudio streamlines the production process by automatically contour cutting printed graphics, eliminating the need to reload and reposition graphics. For laminated graphics, our Quadralign® four-point optical registration system allows users to remove prints, laminate and simply reload them for precision cutting. Quadralign automatically realigns the cutting path and compensates for skew and distortion.
New Cutting Control Design
The BN-20 features a new cutting carriage design that does not bounce against the media if the cutting force is set too high for the substrate. Combined with the largest cutting force of all Roland print/cut devices at 300 grams, precision control of Z movement keeps the cutting consistent and virtually eliminates common problems inherent in drag knife contour cutting technology with simple up/down electronic controls.
This new cutting system has two springs for soft landing on sensitive substrates, yet can handle some of the thickest print/cut materials on the market.
Easy to Load media Feed System
The BN-20 is equipped with a new simplified media feed system that automatically aligns roll media in the printer. This intuitive system detects and adjusts the pinch roll wheels to the width of the installed media, ensuring proper placement and tracking. The BN-20 supports roll media from 150 to 515 mm (5.9 to 20.3 in.) in width, weighing up to 6 kg (13.2 lbs.).
No Roland Has been Easier to Use
The BN-20 is the easiest to use of any device in the Roland printer lineup. All functionality of the device is handled through the VersaStudio utility software. The utility software package is actively open in the Windows® taskbar and controls basic machine functions, status and calibrations. The utility software also monitors replacement of consumable parts like wipers and contour cutting blades.
The BN-20 is perfect for use on a desktop but an optional stand is also available for those with limited desktop space or who wish to have the unit freestanding.
Bundled Design Software
The VersaStudio comes complete with R-Works, an entry-level design package created by Roland. It allows you to import stock photos or personal photos taken with a digital camera, create original layouts with text, and edit custom print and cut graphics. R-Works also includes a vector art library of stock designs.

VersaWorks Dual utilizes PDF and PostScript engines to give users the most effective and powerful VersaWorks RIP ever. Predictive Ink Calculator for Unattended Printing
A predictive ink calculator estimates the amount of ink needed for each job, enabling unattended printing. When there is not enough ink to complete a print job, VersaWorks Dual notifies the operator before printing.
Variable Data Printing is an extremely useful feature that allows users to merge txt or csv data fields into predefined design fields. Print labels, name badges, plaques, menus and other prints in which text and/or graphics change from one print to the next. VersaWorks Dual features new variable printing features that allow users to rotate, mirror and align images and text inside the RIP.
Industry Standard ICC Profile Support
VersaWorks Dual is compatible with industry standard ICC profiles, including those created through standard profiling packages. Profiles from Roland and other leading media providers – for use with compatible Roland printers – can be downloaded for free from the Roland Profile Center.
Job Logs and Network Support Features
A job log feature in VersaWorks Dual keeps a timed and dated record that can be exported to Microsoft Excel – tracking the size, ink usage, print time, media info and more. Other production features include the ability to connect an unlimited number of clients through a shared network printer driver, enabling all users to send jobs to the printer and manage the current status of the printer.
PANTONE® Library and Roland Color System
